The opportunity

EBay is looking for an experienced and highly skilled AI leader to head our team of computer vision applied researchers and engineers. As eBay’s Head of Computer Vision, you will be responsible for developing and executing the computer vision strategy and roadmap across the company. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities to leverage computer vision technology to drive innovation and solve complex business problems. Reporting to eBay’s Chief AI Officer, this role will deliver on cross-company business requirements; define key functionalities; set timelines, and lead end-to-end initiatives across the company.

The ideal candidate will have previously built robust, scalable intelligence-based platforms that enable and drive innovation and go-to-market efficiency. S/he will have demonstrated leadership in AI roles or have significant experience in data science and large scale, high performance runtime systems. The successful candidate will have demonstrated the ability to thrive in highly matrixed organizations, collaborating with a broad range of teams. Equally important is proven management skills. This person will be responsible for recruiting, retaining, and scaling a high-performing team of AI product managers, program managers, and UX designers.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop the computer vision strategy across eBay and the horizontal computer vision capabilities to enable this strategy

  • Develop complex, multi-hypothesis research plans, with clear development milestones related to business objectives

  • Drive the platform and infrastructural requirements for enablement of consumer-facing and internal computer vision capabilities on our private cloud, public cloud, and on-device 

  • Manage and lead a team of computer vision engineers and researchers

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities to leverage computer vision technology to solve complex business problems

  • Collaborate with product teams to design and develop computer vision features and applications

  • Stay up-to-date with the latest research and advancements in the field of computer vision

  • Develop and maintain relationships with external partners, vendors, and research organizations

  • Communicate complex technical information to non-technical stakeholders

Requirements:

PhD/Masters/Bachelors in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or another AI-related field

15+ years of experience in computer vision or related field

Management experience 

Strong knowledge of computer vision techniques, including object detection, segmentation, tracking, and recognition

Deep experience developing and productizing cutting edge computer vision techniques 

Strong programming skills (C++, Python, OpenCV)
