We are offering an exciting opportunity as Senior Bid Strategy Manager (with offshore wind / strategy / management consulting background) to play a significant and impactful rolein paving the way for Vattenfall, its customers and partners towards a fossil free future!

AsSenior Bid Strategy Manager,you will be responsible for defining and executing a winning strategy for Vattenfall in major international auctions for offshore wind energy projects. This is a highly strategic role that requires you to understand the offshore wind playing field (market dynamics, trends, competition, tender criteria) along with Vattenfall’s business strategy and key capabilities in order to create industry-leading strategies that position Vattenfall at the forefront of the global energy transition.

The Business Area Wind is responsible for Vattenfall’s onshore and offshore wind development, construction and operation as well as other non-hydro renewable activities like solar, PV and batteries. Our offshore business is amongst the top three players in our North-Western European core markets. Our existing offshore portfolio consists of 4,5 GW installed capacity and in 2023 we inaugurated the world’s first subsidy free offshore site. It is our clear ambition to continue and even accelerate our strong growth in the future and help Vattenfall succeed in its mission to enable fossil freedom.

Qualifications


You willbe part of the Bid Strategy Team which is part of Market Development and Offshore Development within the Business Unit Offshore Wind. The main target of the Bid Strategy team is to secure development rights and/or support for offshore wind farms in international auctions. This is done by defining and executing winning strategies that position Vattenfall ahead of its competition in order to win major international projects. The offshore wind market has become increasingly competitive, and in many countries, tender criteria are advanced, focusing on elements such as sustainability, ecology and system integration as well as financial bids. This requires an increased focus on strategic thinking and a cross-functional approach order to develop winning bid strategies.

Your role as aSenior Bid Strategy Manageris to define, drive and deliver winning bid strategies in the auctions for offshore wind farms. This is a highly impactful role where you will work across projects and across countries, focusing on:

  • Developing winning bid strategies for multi-gigawatt wind projects through analyses of tender frameworks, competition and requirements to win alongside Vattenfall’s capabilities and overarching business strategy

  • Identifying and mobilizingkey technical, commercial and business stakeholders for executing on the bid strategy

  • Aligning and obtaining support from senior management, specifically around the bid strategy and why/how it is a winning approach

  • Functionally managinga multi-disciplinary team under strict timelines towards a winning deliverable

  • Contracting and managingkey support for the bid

  • Taking full responsibility for the end deliverable: a high quality bid strategy and subsequent winning bid

  • Preparingand presenting decision material for senior management

Location

The preferred location is Amsterdam in the Netherlands. Traveling in Northern Europe to various Vattenfall locations should be expected on a regular basis, approx. 4 days per month.

Your profile / who are you?

For succeeding in thisrole, you bring a background in offshore wind bid development, strategy or management consulting, plus strong commercial acumen,communication skills and passion for the energy transition

  • You hold an academic degree in Economics, Business Administration, Engineering or similar.

  • You have minimum of 10+years of professional work experience in offshore wind bid development, strategy and/or management consulting. Experience in the (renewable) energy sector is preferred.

  • You are an “allrounder”: you have a passion for strategy plus an analytical mindset that allows you to make sense of complex and/or contradictory information to creatively solve problems.

  • You enjoy taking leadership and presenting to senior management. You know how to pitch a convincing story, and are experienced in working closely with the C-suite.

  • You have experience in project management and further interestin developing in project management and as a leader.

  • You are competent analysing market trends, competitor information and tender requirements to understand the “big picture” of what is required to win projects, as well as how this fits to overall business strategies and capabilities of Vattenfall. Importantly, you are not afraid to think and act differently (as this is what it takes to win)!

  • You have a strong commercial understanding of project business cases and key drivers (CAPEX, OPEX, revenues).

  • You are a team player that thrives under pressure and in international, cross-functional settings.

  • You are action-oriented, consistently set goals for yourself and take on new opportunities and tough challenges with high energy and enthusiasm.

  • You work effectively with partners, relate openly and comfortably with diverse groups of stakeholders and gain trust through honesty and integrity.

  • You have excellent communication skills in English, both verbally and written, ensuring seamless collaboration across international teams. Additional language skills in Dutch, German, Swedish or Danish would be an advantage, expanding your ability to engage with local stakeholders and team members.
