The team

Development comprises cross-functional teams from three functional departments: UX, Product and Engineering. The VP of Engineering leads the Engineering department made of more than 50 Engineers with different specialities: Product Engineers, Cloud Infrastructure Engineers, Data Scientists, Data Engineers, Analytics Engineers, Security Engineers, QA Engineers and Engineering Managers.

HousingAnywhere Platform

HousingAnywhere Group develops and maintains three products: HousingAnywere, Kamernet and Studapart. As HousingAnywhere acquired Studapart and Kamernet in the past years, each product has its stack and platform, with HousingAnywhere becoming the central, unified platform for the three of them as we continue to integrate.

The stack we use is the following:

  • HousingAnywhere : React, Typescript, Go, Node, Postgres, Redis, Kubernetes, GCP.

Kamernet: .NET, React, Node, GCP. Studapart: PHP, Laravel, MySQL.

Snowflake, Stitch, GCP Composer, Tableau, and Cube mainly power our data platform.

The Role:

Technical Leadership: Y ou steer the technical direction of the company by formulating and maintaining an innovative technical strategy and roadmap that aligns with long-term business objectives. Whether personally serving as a systems architect or delegating responsibilities, you ensure clear communication of expectations and progress to Engineering Team Leads and team members, ensuring everyone is aligned with the company's forward-looking vision. You take accountabilities for the technical decisions and direction of the key strategic projects.

Engineering Execution: You oversee and manage the Engineering teams to deliver effectively within the defined technical roadmap. You establish clear metrics and processes for monitoring productivity, quality, and delivery. When needed, you lead strategic initiatives to enhance the team's efficiency, ensuring the health, security, and operational excellence of the systems of HousingAnywhere.

Integration and Unification Strategy : You are responsible for shaping and driving the technical strategy for the seamless integration of Studapart and Kamernet into the unified HousingAnywhere platform, while also ensuring scalability and adaptability for future acquisitions. This role demands meticulous planning, coordination, and execution, not only aligning with but enhancing the overall technical roadmap and business objectives. Your leadership is crucial in managing the complexities of integrating diverse systems and teams, ensuring a consistent and efficient user experience across the unified platform and future acquisitions.

Organisational Planning and Staffing: You actively shape and adjust the organisational structure, in collaboration with the VP of Product and Director of UX, to meet overarching goals. Collaborating closely with key stakeholders you lead the creation of a comprehensive Hiring Plan for your department that aligns with the company's strategic objectives.

Collaboration and Stakeholder Management: You build an open and collaborative work environment based on our core values. You manage inter-dependencies not only within the Engineering team but also foster collaboration between departments ensuring a cohesive approach towards the company's objectives. You lead Product Development in collaboration with the VP of Product and Director of UX.

Performance and Career Management: You set and apply an approach to performance and career management for your department. You cultivate an environment where Engineering Leaders and team members receive the necessary mentorship and coaching for their professional growth and development .

Budget Management: You act as the budget owner of the Engineering team's budget. you oversee financial aspects encompassing personnel, tool licensing, SAAS adoption, and cloud hosting costs. You plan for future needs by leading buy vs build decisions, and managing the relationship with key partnerships with providers of hosting and other core services we use in our platform.

Your profile:

  • More than 10 years of experience in tech companies building and evolving distributed systems and engineering and mid-size engineering organisations. At least 3 years of experience in a senior manager role (Director or above).
  • Background focused on software engineering, with a strong understanding of data engineering and cloud engineering.
  • Strong communicator, both verbally and in writing in English. French is a plus.
  • Proven experience in setting a technical strategy from business goals and aligning multiple teams with them.
  • A strong leader, able to inspire, motivate and coach internal team members, as well as promote the organisation externally and in public.
  • Strong Product Mindset that balances commercial needs with a great user experience.
