Houston, TX – Texas A&M University School of Engineering Medicine (ENMED) invites nominations and applications for the position of Executive Associate Dean (EAD). This is a tremendously unique opportunity to guide an innovative and pioneering program to its next stage of evolution and grow its research and educational profile while serving as a key leader within the School of Engineering Medicine.

ENMED offers a unique and revolutionary medical education program, where graduates receive a Medical Doctorate and Master of Engineering degree in four years. The converged engineering and medicine curriculum (ENMED) is the first to provide these dual degrees in four years, focused on the design and implementation of impactful medical technologies. ENMED is an educational, research and translational collaborative venture with the state’s top and National Honor Roll Hospital, Houston Methodist, and as such brings together recognized leaders in medical education, engineering, and health care. Established in 2017, ENMED welcomed its first class of students in 2019. It offers two accredited degrees in four years, has 200+ innovation projects, over 20 innovation disclosures and over 10 patents. Through unique and groundbreaking education blending medical and engineering curricula, ‘physicianeers’ are developed. The focus is to develop early adopters of transformational technologies, innovate within the field of medicine, and develop new solutions for the changing healthcare landscape. This first-in-the-nation program equips innovative, problem-solving physicians with a distinctive lens to address healthcare’s greatest challenges.

The Executive Associate Dean will have the opportunity to help develop and direct the strategic vision and goals of ENMED’s academic, research, medical, engineering, and clinical missions. Reporting to Dr. Roderic Pettigrew, Dean of the School of Engineering Medicine, the EAD will be a critical leader at ENMED supporting faculty and students, establishing, developing, and maintaining collaborative internal and external partnerships, and enhancing the performance and profile of the program. They will also coordinate large research initiatives with Texas A&M, other universities, research institutions, and other private non-profit and for-profit sponsors. The EAD will work with the Dean on developing strategies to continue long-term investment into programming and model sustainability for core research facilities. They will ensure the researchers and students maintain access to state-of-the-art technologies, instrumentation, and specialized scientific services to keep ENMED at the forefront of leading institutions of medicine.

Candidates will be a highly innovative and visionary leader with an innate drive to revolutionize medical education. The ideal candidate will have an M.D. or D.O. and an advanced degree in engineering, along with extensive research experience and portfolio. They will bring considerable experience in managing large research grants and a commitment to research compliance. Candidates should also have superior communication and collaboration skills with internal stakeholders as well as external stakeholders. The EAD will possess strong fiscal and management acumen in addition to a strategic orientation. They will have an unwavering dedication to students, faculty, and staff, as well as a steadfast heart for pioneering within medicine and medical education.
