Job Mission

Machine Conditioning (MC) is part of the Development & Engineering division within ASML. This department focuses on functional modules and parts of ASML's lithography machines. You work with temperature control and gas conditioning, which is essential in reducing the environmental footprint of our machines – an essential part of our sustainability goals.  

As Lead Engineer, you are responsible for the conceptualization, detailed design and technical product documentation (drawings and other required documents).

Role and Responsibilities

This work consists of a translation of the architecture into a design that meets the agreed requirements; a creation of the 3D design, volume control, engineering changes as well as design qualification and proving the design is working as intended.

You are pro-actively gathering data from suppliers, factory and field to continuously improve your design for future platforms and upgrades. You are creating a roadmap for the (sub)-modules you own.

The Lead Engineer maintains regular alignment with the Sub-Function architect and the product owner.

The team size varies from 6 to 10 people, a part of which may be at a co-developer.

Main responsibilities:

  • Contribute to feasibility studies in early development phase of (sub-)modules
  • Translate performance specifications into design specification for (sub-)modules. (Key words: Flow, pressure drop, Gas purity, availability, strength, etc.)
  • Steer technical discussions towards the best design solution that meets all requirements. Steer concept design choice, organize and prepare design reviews.
  • Drive solution implementation to meet quality and timing.
  • Make sure the design is documented with proper models and drawings.
  • Interface with (internal) customers and suppliers.
  • Define and execute the final tests to verify the specifications in cooperation with module integration into the complex ASML systems.
  • Create hardware roadmap based on the (sub-)function roadmap.
  • Gather data from the suppliers, the factory and the field as input for the hardware roadmap and share the lessons learned with the technical competencies (Feed Back Loop).
  • If needed, steer junior designers in making high quality designs.
Education and experience

Bachelor's degree or master’s degree in mechanical and industrial engineering, aerospace engineering or related fields

  • Solid design experience in relevant (F&T) industry
  • At least 5 years of experience in a lead engineer role.
  • Excellent knowledge in the field manufacturability of mechanical parts.
  • Technical communication with suppliers.
  • Experience with NX (unigraphics) or similar CAD program required.

  • Ability to perform independently in highly dynamic environment.
  • Ability to organize work effectively and having a systematic approach in problem solving.
  • Ability to provide technical direction, motivate and convince a team of professionals.
  • Robust personality is a must.
  • Pragmatic and result-oriented attitude.
  • Experience steering internal and external design teams on quality, technical skills and timing
  • Experience working in large groups 
  • Good communication skills and good command of the English language (both written and verbal)
